The country has also been listed as one of the most megadiverse nations in the world, regarding its biodiversity.

Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens
The major objective behind establishing these gardens were to preserve and conserve the most indigenous flora of the country. Opened in 1913, the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens are huge and comprise of more than twenty thousand local species of plants, and herbs. It is essentially a maze of gardens, the most popular ones being the Scented gardens, sculpture gardens and Company’s garden. Tourists widely appreciate the greenery and the beautiful views that this attraction offers. There is also a small oasis with trees around, leaving everyone spell-bound.
Clifton and Camps Bay Beaches

Johannesburg

The Apartheid Museum
The Apartheid museum is simply magnificent. It displays every little part of the history of South Africa- from the initial struggles to the very end till the independence. There is an entire section on Nelson Mandela and his fight for freedom. It educates and enlightens people about the atrocities that once shook the entire Africa and also the world. Constitution Hill
The Constitution Hill signifies the great freedom struggles for the independence of the country. It essentially focuses on the Constitution Court, which is beautifully built within the Old Fort, which has served as a prison to great political activists including Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela. Court marks the distinctive transition of South Africa’s history to its present. The modern structure still incorporates parts of the old prison walls and allows visitors to watch the proceedings. After having visited the Constitution Court and Old Fort, travellers may also explore the Number four prison and the Women’s prison.æ
Gold Reef City
The Gold Reef City offers a spectacular sight with countless number of theme park rides, historical antiquities and marvellous golden exhibits. Soweto and the Mandela Museum
Located almost twenty kilometres southwest of Johannesburg, Soweto opens the historical chapters of freedom fights. Also the birthplace of the struggle for democracy, Soweto being far away from the main city was a home to black labourers, who were kept away from the most of the urban and suburban Johannesburg. Soweto also has the Mandela House museum, where Mandela used to live before he was imprisoned.
Lion Park
The lion park is a thrilling experience for the visitors, both local and global. It offers a plethora of exciting activities for everyone to experience an unforgettable wildlife journey. People get to see the rare white lion, wild dogs, hyenas and many other African wildlife species. You can very easily spot zebra and giraffe grazing in the area. South African National Museum of Military History
Aptly named South African museum of Military History educates tourists about the country’s military army. æIt forms an informative and educative tour explaining about the intricacies faced by the Army. The major highlights include World War II equipment, fighter planes, bombers and preserved remains and exhibits of tanks, arms, ammunition, medals and uniform. There is also an interesting exhibit on medical aid and medicines that were used at the time of war displaying Zulu’s traditional healing during Anglo-Zulu war as well as present treatments used in battles.

Addo Elephant Park
This is the one place that you must visit if you are an animal lover. The elphants walk past by you very close in this park and the experience is overwhelming. A two hours’ jeep ride is sufficient for going around the expanse of the Park.Escape to the bush and spend hours scouring the pristine Eastern Cape landscape for wildlife at Addo Elephant Park, home to over 550 elephant. It is the third largest national park in South Africa and has expanded to conserve a wide range of wildlife and flora from the semi-desert Karoo down to the coastline of SundayÍs River Valley Mouth.
Algoa Beach
When you want to hit the beach, Algoa Bay, the coastal strip of Nelson Mandela Bay is the first option that should come to your mind. It is a 40km-stretch of beaches with protected areas for swimming at Kings Beach, Hobie Beach, Humewood Beach (a world-class, Blue Flag beach), Pollock Beach and Denville Beach.æFishing, surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling and sailing are enjoyed at the quieter spots including Wildside, Sardinia Bay, Blue Horizon Bay, Bluewater Bay, Beachview and Schoenmakerskop.
Red Location Museum
When in South Africa, it is shameful if you do not make a visit to the Red Location Museum. It portrays both the horrors of institutionalised racism and the heroic efforts of the anti-apartheid movement.
St. George’s Park

Donkin Reserve
Then thereÍs the Donkin Reserve, where you can enjoy birds, walking paths, an opera house, a lighthouse and a memorial. The Donkin Reserve, Pyramid and Lighthouse includes a Stone Pyramid Monument with a touching inscription erected by Sir Rufane Donkin in memory of his late wife, Elizabeth, after whom the city was named, as well as palm-lined walkways and benches.
